Training Day 25th March
At least Jasmine and Bruce will do a session in the morning at Chewton Diggings. We'll be based at the Chewton soccer oval (or the nearest playground) from around 10:30am to 12:30pm. At least one of us will be there with Mason and Torren pretty much the whole time. I'll try to run first and put some tapes out in case anyone else wants to run the course.
We'll probably pop into Castlemaine for lunch at around 1pm.
The afternoon session is flexible.
Probably starting at 1:30pm-2pm.
Jim has some Smith's Reef maps (relevant for the 'easy' Day 1 area) and Liggo is keen on this.
Other relevant options for Day 2/3 are Crocodile Reservoir and Glenluce.
I'll try to bring maps of each, and we can work it out at lunch time.
I'll need to leave at 4pm, to return back to Melbourne.
If you plan to come, call me on 0418 583866 so that you know what we are doing and I can bring enough maps.
I don't think we'll go to the BG Lyell Forest as it is not that relevant for the Easter terrain.

NOL #1,2,3 Results
Race #1 Sprint Distance
Race #2 Middle Distance
Race #3 Long Distance
NOL results from series 1 (rounds 1,2&3) are now posted on the OA website at;
http://www.orienteering.asn.au/nationalleague/nol2006/
Victoria is currently sitting in fourth position, behind NSW, ACT and TAS. The men's team came third and the women's team fifth.
Blair 6th, Bruce 7th and Rune 8th and Jasmine 6th are the best of senior individual standings.
Chris 3rd and Claire 4th are the best of the JNOL standings, with the team also in third place.
Shame File
Victoria lost a uniform point at NOL #3 as Rune Olsen wore black pants instead of the correct navy pair. This was despite coach and manager giving him specific instructions not to do this the day before.
Please feel free to give Rune a hard time about this when you next see him.

NSW NOL update + start times updates
G-day everyone,
There have been quite a few changes in the start lists for this weekends National League races.
NOL 1 sprint, has been changed so that there are no vacant positions in the start list.
NOL 2 Middle, has been changed so that the juniors and seniors will run in separate start groups (originally both classes were mixed in together). Vacant spots have also been taken out of the start list.
NOL 3 Long, has had some minor changes so that some of the better runners will not be starting together.
The new start lists are now up on the competition web pages. Can you spread the news amongst your athletes that new start lists are out. Hopefully it won't cause too much confusion, the changes for the first race are only minor. If anyone doesn't find out before the race day the word should spread at the race and they will check the new list.

It is likely to be hot, possibly very hot for the time of year. Sunday looks the worse of the two days, but the area is at a higher elevation and we have an earlier start. At this stage I'd expect maximum temperatures at the venues in the low 30s on both days, but mid 30s are not out of the question. Sunday (which could be quite windy) also has a fairly good chance of being a total fire ban day, but that doesn't result in event cancellations in NSW so the event will go ahead regardless (unless the area is on fire :-)
My recollection is that there isn't much in the way of food and/or eating places at Wyangala (a small general store, and a pub which may or may not have decent food). Nor are there any shops anywhere near the farm for those who are staying there. My advice is to pick up anything you think you'll need on the way up on Friday.
The info sheet suggests that Saturday's area (which appears to be on the other side of the road from the Australian Relays) has more forest on it than the relay area did, but it still looks pretty quick.
