QLD NOL Bulletin #2

Queensland Championships NOL Bulletin 2.
As you know the next rounds of the NOL are coincidental with the Queensland Championships to take place near Maryborough over the weekend of 19 and 20 August. Enoggeroos are the organising club.
On line entry and full information is now available is available at www.qoa.asn.au/champs

Day 1 will take place on Hunter’s Hut which has been mapped by Geoff Peck. This day will consist of the Queensland Middle Distance Championships. The map is very gentle and quite clear spur gully country where some competitors will run very fast times and others will regret going too fast and making big mistakes. NOL starts are set to take place from 1pm to allow for travel from Brisbane. JNOL and NOL courses are the same enabling juniors to count for both competitions. Catering has been arranged to encourage runners to compete, eat and relax. The Saturday evening will see a Trevor Sauer Trivia night (in Maryborough) with presentations for the Middle Distance Championships. Day 2 is scheduled to commence for NOL at 10am with Classic length loop courses for M/W21 and M/W17-20. The JNOL courses will not be the same as the NOL courses and therefore JNOL entrants will only count for JNOL points. The map is Graveyard Creek which is similar to Hunter’s Hut but has more rock detail and some evidence of erosion features. Fast times are still expected. Presentations for NOL are expected to commence at 12.30 to allow time for travel back to Brisbane.

The first entries have been received from, Ben Rattray and John Nieuwenhoven (both from South Australia), both successfully used the on-line entry and the direct payment to Heritage. Their details appear on the web, as payments have been confirmed.

The web site has a section called “About Maryborough” which gives a brief history of the town and region and contains links about the area and other links to accommodation. In the last week one of the local motels contacted us with the following information which has been loaded to the web.
“The Arkana Motel is part of the Golden Chain group of motels and is ideally suited for your accommodation needs. They would like to offer competitors a 10% discount on rates - and possibly more discounts for groups. Arkana Motel 46 Ferry Street, Maryborough Tel: 4121 2261 FREE CALL - 1800 46 14 18 http://www.arkanamotel.com.au/ Email: arkana01@bigpond.net.au Book now to avoid disappointment!!”

I advise all teams to make early accommodation bookings as there will be competition for beds from the NZ teams as well as from the annual “grey invasion” from the south.

More accommodation information will follow, on the web, next week. We are also hopeful that we will be able to add expected course lengths and a “model event” map to the web during the next week. Keep looking at www.qoa/asn.au/champs for full event details.
